World Electricity Chart

This chart was prepared to help you determine which converters and adapters you will need to operate your small appliances around the world. NOTE: references to 110V apply to the range from 110V to 160V, while 220V refers to the range from 200V to 260V.

Electric Appliances

Operate with simple heating devices (hot pots, travel irons, hair dryers, heating pads, etc.). These appliances may be used with either a converter or a transformer of the appropriate wattage range.

Electronic Appliances

Operate with electronic motors, circuits or chips (computers, printers, clocks, radios, battery chargers). These appliances should be used ONLY with a transformer of the appropriate wattage range. (NOTE: Computers are typically dual-voltage and do not usually require a transformer, but always check first.)

Wattage

The amount of energy a product consumes. All appliances have wattage ratings. If there is no wattage specified, multiply Volts by Amps. The resulting number is the appliance's wattage.

Voltage

The pressure at which electricity is delivered to a circuit.

Step Down

Process which changes 220V current to 110V, so that 110V appliances may be used in areas with 220V current.

Step Up

Process which changes 110v current to 220v, so that 220v appliances can be used in areas with 110v current.

Cycles (FREQ)

The speed at which electric currents alternate (Hz).

Since some countries have more than one type of outlet, it is possible that more than one adapter will be required. Before you leave, check with your travel agent, hotel or consulate for specific information regarding electricity in the areas you will be visiting

This table is a general guide to appliances commonly used during travel-it is only a guide.

It is possible that your appliances and other items listed below have different wattage specifications. Always check the wattage of your appliance to ensure it is within the wattage range of the converter or transformer you are using. Electronic appliances should be used with a transformer ONLY.

Because of the difference between North American and foreign TV systems, the use of transformers with a TV or VCR will usually not make a North American TV or VCR usable overseas.
